Updating Daylight Savings Time (DST) on the ES700 Time Recorder Follow
DST begins the second Sunday in March and ends the first Sunday in November. When DST is set, the clock automatically gains one hour at 2:00 AM on the first day of Daylight Saving Time to show 3:00 AM. At 2:00 AM on the last day of DST, the clock automatically loses one hour to show 1:00 AM.
Note: Previous versions of this model included a feature for automatic synchronization using the atomic signal, facilitated by an attached antenna. Mentions of these features are indicated with a red asterisk (*).
The ES700 has three (3) basic options for DST:
- *Automatic Updates - If your clock is receiving atomic signals and you observe the U.S. standard Daylight Saving Time change, you will want to use this option.
- No DST Updates - If you do not want the clock to update for DST, you will want to use this option to turn off the Daylight Saving Time adjustment entirely.
- Manual Updates - If you observe the Daylight Savings Time change and do not fall into the automatic updates category, you can manually set the DST start and end dates.
This article will cover all three options, but feel free to use the links below to jump to the option that fits your needs.

Setting Daylight Saving Time
DST Mode Options
The ES900 Time Recorder is set to automatic for the factory default setting; if you do not have an atomic model, you will want to adjust this setting to manual or turn it off entirely.
Option | Description |
*1 | *Automatic - DST is automatically set from the atomic clock signal |
2 |
Off - The clock does not adjust for DST |
3 | Manual - Set the DST start and end dates yourself |
*Automatic Updates (Default Setting)
If your clock is receiving atomic signals and you observe the U.S. standard Daylight Saving Time change, simply leave the clock’s DST mode set to the default of 1. The clock will automatically adjust for DST on the second Sunday of March and the first Sunday of November every year based on the NIST WWBV Signal.
In this event, no further setting is necessary for Daylight Saving Time. The clock will handle the change automatically.
No DST Updates
If you wish to turn off the Daylight Saving Time adjustment entirely, you will need to select option 2 for the clock’s DST mode. If you do this, the clock will NOT adjust at all for Daylight Saving Time.
To turn off the DST adjustment on the ES700:
- Unlock the unit and remove the cover. Refer to our Getting Started article for how to Open the Unit.
- Press SELECT until the arrow points to DST near the top right of the display.
- Press CHANGE until the number 2 is displayed.
- Press SET to accept this setting.
- Replace the cover and lock the unit. Refer to our Getting Started article for how to Close the Unit.
Manual Updates
To set the DST start and end dates manually, you will need to set the clock’s DST mode to option 3. You must set the DST start and end dates manually. The unit will remember the start and end dates you set, and automatically update the settings every year thereafter. No further manual setting is necessary unless you need to change your DST schedule.
