Windows Launch Error Workaround Follow
Recently, Windows was updated with a security patch that interferes with a number of custom applications. ProPunch was affected by this update, and you may experience what appears to be a block on running your ProPunch dashboard. If you have a bookmark for the browser interface of ProPunch, this will still be accessible. Your data is safe if you have not deleted, moved, or otherwise tampered with your database directories.
To restore access to the dashboard (for running backups and checking on updates), we have developed the following workaround. Our engineering team is assessing the situation, however, this workaround will be needed to update any impacted ProPunch installations once a fix is developed.
We will need to create a “batch file” (.bat file) on the desktop of the PC where ProPunch is installed and then a shortcut to this batch file in order to launch the ProPunch dashboard.
- Steps to do this:
- Open Notepad.
- Type in this command with the location of your ProPunch executable, by default it is C:\xampp\dashboard\pp-dashboard.exe
- start “” “C:\xampp\dashboard\pp-dashboard.exe” then hit enter. (note the lowercase 's' in start and the double quotes followed by a space)
- Type “exit” (no quotes), hit enter. It should look like this:
start "" "c:\xampp\dashboad\pp-dashboard.exe"
exit
- Click: File > Save as
- Set the filetype dropdown to 'all' filetype.
- Manually set the filename to something like pp_dashboard_workaround.bat)
- Note the location of the file you are saving, we recommend the documents folder.
- Close Notepad.
- Open the Documents folder (or the folder you chose to save the batch file to), Right-click the .bat file, and select create new shortcut from it.
- Move that shortcut to your desktop.
- Right-click the new shortcut, choose the Properties tab
- Click Advanced, under the Shortcut tab.
- Click the checkbox to enable "Run as administrator", click OK to confirm the change, and then click OK again to save the change.
- Double-click the shortcut to open the ProPunch dashboard.
